Found this crusty button the other day. Very rough condition, but I'd still like to know how old it is and if it's a military button.

I can see that it's a two piece button, since it's coming apart. Has an older style shank, but not sure how old. Any help identifying this toasted button would be appreciated.

I'd say a red cross button. The ones I see mostly, but not all, have words on the front as well. There were some without that claimed to be their ambulance service from 1915, but I couldn't open the link to it, and I don't put much stock in one sellers idea of what something is.
Edit: actually when enlarged I can make out a few letters, but not enough to be sure that it says the expected "American Red Cross"

You must have better eyes than mine! I can't see any letters at all. But an American Red Cross button makes sense. I'll go through eBay and do a Google image search to see if I can find it. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
