Ca foot hills. (Central ca.)
Detector(s) used
XP Deus and tesoro compadre minelab Equinox 800
Primary Interest:
Relic Hunting
I've had my deus for about three years and it's been great but never been able to fish out a silver coin on my own two acres.

Ive found plenty elsewhere just not on my own turf.
I've found a silver ring, and one silver earring (prob belonged to last home owner/renters)
Just not a silver coin!

Wife wanted a break from kids so I gave 6year old the pin pointer and we were gone.
I went straight to corner of property where it's littered with nails (I'm assuming from construction of my house in the late 80s)
I've been over it before several times with v3.2 using deus fast and thought I've pulled everything available from between the iron.

Using "hot" program with sensitivity dropped to 86 frequency 12, GB tracking IMG_2220.JPGand tx 1
Among the iron grunts I heard that high squeak, near tree.
Pulled ground up a bit and my daughter went to work with the pinpointer and said "nothing here!"
I gave her a smirk and she came clean and said "just kidding, it's a penny" and handed the tarnished 1941 merk to me.
Finally!!!
Then.. went through the surrounding area very close and pulled a 1945 wheat about 2 feet away.
My property is bordered by 1800s road that leads to nearby reservoir that was active in the gold rush.
Just Chinese coins and Indian heads down there so far
can't wait to go around some older stone foundations that are littered with iron with this new program.

Interesting to hear. When buying a Deus it seems true it will not be outdated by the manufacturer next improved model!

Glad to hear you found silver on your property!

Thanks guys.
It's the low disk and full tones that helped me out in the nails.
Something I'm getting to know and love.
I've founds a lot of nonferrous targets in my iron areas using this program
Here's the other things that I fished out of the nailbeds right after finding that Merck
IMG_2221.JPG
Just a give away bank knife with some golf greens markers stuck inside. The nails were all around it. Took awhile to recover because of all the iron nails. Crazy signal.
Found the 45 wheaty next to the merk along with both parts of button snap. Could've been in clothing that was thrown off side of road and later caught fire leaving the change behind.
Ever wonder how certain things got in certain places we dig up?
...like the partial denture I found[emoji848]

Although most don't do it (I think because Andy says not to) - crank up the reactivity to 4 and 5 and check that area again, any high tones will be extremely short...I also like running TX1 in super heavy trash as well.

Way to go! That's great

Actually, the lack of popularity of the higher reactivity settings has more to do with the fact that depth is limited at those higher reactivity settings and it is easy to miss the peep if you do get a hit. Just because Andy is not a fan doesn't hold people back otherwise none of us would be using full tones either. lol. Nevertheless, it is worth it to go over the area at those high reactivity settings to see if silver is hiding amongst the shallow iron, so not a bad recommendation.

Yes limited depth no doubt but you are not going to detect below iron regardless so the only option (in heavy heavy iron)is to detect whats above the iron, this is where shallow settings shine.....high R, low TX and low sensitivity....these settings help non ferrous targets stand out better in heavy iron....lower settings reduce the chance of iron overload....works for me anyway.

Hope you weren't given the impression I was not endorsing your recommendation. If so, you may want to re-read what I posted.

Yeah, that's why I said it worth it. Did you think my post was recommending against it?

No not at all.......just wanted to explain my opinion in more detail for those who may not have understood the full reasoning of the lower settings.

Side note, I did some testing awhile back and I was surprised and kinda disappointed that a rusty square nail was blocking out a dime, the nail was only 2 inches higher and not directly over the dime....I think the spacing was about 2 or 3 inches. I suppose this is also a good reason to always grid a site as well.

Yes, Grid and go different directions too.
I like to avoid the typical north, south east west directions (relative to physical structures in area ; fence, lawn, sidewalks etc) and go at diagonals.
At least it makes me feel like there's a chance in some heavy hunted areas.
That with low tx and sensitivity combined with low disc and full tones makes me happy. [emoji3]

Grid and use different freqency settings too. With four discrete frequency settings it is like being able to grid th0e site with four different detectors.
