Found this badge/medallion earlier this evening in an old rock-wall-lined field in the woods, about 100 yards from an old cellar hole. Site was occupied from the 1840s to the 1930s before abandoned. Vermont State Seal on the front, blank on back. Heavy, rang up with high VDI so likely copper or brass. Appears it's a Vermont Veterans badge, possibly post civil war era or from the Sons of Veterans into the early 20th century. Any ideas on a date, or if this is a correct ID? Thanks in advance for any help.

You may be able to date it by the design of the state seal. Has the VT seal changed over the years? It is a great find! Sub 8-)

I think you're right on the id as far as it being a GAR medal, that particular seal was used by the state from the 1820's til 1937, so, post Civil War to 1937 is the best date I can give, but I'd guess from others I've seen post 1900....
