The two tan pipestone pieces said Adams Co.

All of these except the Trade Pipe came from the same Ft Ancient site in Scioto county Ohio. All personal finds. Two Effigies. One with a mouth carved into it and the other a Phallic Symbol.

The pipe is a super rare find. I never even found a piece of one and I used to hunt quite a bit. Very nice. It’s classic fort ancient that’s for sure

Really nice pipes. The two pipes that I found at my Ft. Ancient site in Adams county look nothing like those. Both of mine are platform type pipes made of stone........

I live right near the epicenter of Hopewell/Fort Ancient/Adena Activity, in Carter County Kentucky. Portsmouth Ohio is a stones throw away, and everyone knows how Portsmouth was a mecca of activity. That being said, I can't find much of anything to save my soul, lol! Great pipes!

That area has been hunted clean. Many places are in Ohio and Ky. I just heard the other day the Army Corp of Engineers and ODNR are arresting people now for hunting the banks of the Ohio. That stunned me.

I know several people who hunt the river banks. Perhaps they'd like to know about that...

It's a shame, I got really interested in this stuff, and it's mostly cleaned out now. I did manage to find some gems before "the great drought".

ARROWHEAD.jpg

Hopewell, made from Flint Ridge material. I found this on the banks of a pond on my property.

Adena rounded poll celt, found just lying on top of one of the upper banks of the Ohio River.

Carter Cave Adena to the right of the Hopewell. Everything else is from Georgia.

I can't even find anybody willing to sell me any local stuff. I love everything I see, but then I gut a chuckle, and a "not fer sale, bub." response.

I do have hope for my place though. Folks have found an Adena blade cache up here before, and many arrowheads when the houses around here were built. I want to start digging, but I don't want to dig a crater for nothing either.

There is always going to be a few good places to look, but many of the roadside fields have been hunted to exhaustion for over 100 years.

By law, steamboats in early to mid 19th century, were required to dock before sundown. The crew would escape the heat of the boilers by camping on the banks. I found a camp along the banks where I found my earliest coins. I was metal detecting with my headphones on one day and a Fish and Wildlife officer taps me on the shoulder. Scared the hell out of me. He told me this was government maintained property and I was to quit doing what I was doing. That was the end of much fun for me, never went back.

They are hitting hard in Georgia to. Closing creeks and posting signs Id be careful to stay on private property with permission to be there.

Id have to disagree with you on that. I live in Scioto county and I also hunt Lawrence in Ohio and Greenup and Lewis in Kentucky. Now while you don't find the killers as much as years ago I did find over 400 pieces this year including a really nice Plummet, a couple nice Celts, several nice Beads, and lots of Points and Scrapers. They are still there to be found if you put in the time to look.

Where the heck in Scioto do you live? Every time I go up there, zilch!

Ive got a couple spots in Haverhill that I have permission to hunt where I find some decent stuff. Mostly Archaic. I have a site in Lawrence county that is Hopewell and gives up great pieces. I have a big farm in Lewis county Ky that so far has been really good. I also have two Ft Ancient sites I was able reaquire permission after new owners took over. The good thing about all these properties is I am the only one allowed to hunt them, all because I stopped and talked to the farmer and asked. I abide by their rules too and always hunt by myself.

Lewis county, the bane of my existence, lol! I can walk to Lewis county from my house. The folks around there will be happy to tell you of all the stuff that has come out of there. Remember the Trinity site? I remember a guy telling me all about the time he found a Clovis, back in 1950 something. He sold it for tobacco money of all things! Carter county is good, but Lewis, Greenup and Boyd counties are the best because of the Ohio river. Scioto is killer, as proven by you, along with Lawrence in Ohio.

Sunny, I'm sorry for the hijack. Bad habit.

I have hunted arrow heads since I was 13 and in 22 years of my military service all over the states i have never found a pipe. I guess at my age I am not going to break my unlucky streak.
