I've been spot scanning a new 60+ acre permission related to one of the confederate entry ways into Chickamauga Battlefield. The landowner told me the property had been scavenged by treasure hunters for years, but graciously allowed me to document what is left.

The first day I could only find one 325 grain pancaked bullet & a 50-70 cartridge, which drew my attention by virtue of having no head stamp.

On Monday, I tried to beat the imminent rain, and in a short hunt, was able to find a 69Cal roundball, a fragment of a skeleton key and an 1893 issue Horstmann Eagle button that was damaged on the face, but the back was in descent enough condition to read the backmark. Oddly enough, the loop was in perfect standing position.

Yesterday I put the spot scanning on hold and revisited the small hill where I found the above pieces and now I need a few items identified if possible.

I'm primarily interested in the tapered brass piece with the two holes, the hook with the roller plate,

the piece with the oval two hole base plate & the odd looking grommet with the extra notch. I saw this 'grommet' posted the other day, but it wasn't mentioned what it was in the thread.

And finally, I had to add this cache of 22's I stumbled upon. While venturing beyond the small hill and into 'quiet signal land', I came upon a descent signal that ended up yielding, so far, (54) 22's in an 8" diameter hole 1-3" deep. After 10 minutes, I said that's enough for today & will get the others on the next trip as it was cutting into my relic digging time.

The grommet had wood handle and would feed a wick in a lantern.

The tapered thing looks like a Springfield/ Enfield bayonet scabbard finial

Judging by the other items you found, I'd have to agree with Joe-Dirt on the Scabbard Finial. I'm not familiar with the Grommet's, but rick67 seems to know what he's talking about... "D"

When I saw it, that was my first thought, sword scarab tip. Congrats on the nice find!

7th picture, second item: Parasol slide. It is the central sliding piece from an old umberella.

I think it is a bayonet scabbard tip the piece you are missing is the finial [lead or brass]

I believe this will make 3 items identified with one to go. I appreciate everyone's input.

The Hook item appears to be a Spanish American War Canteen Sling Hook. Was lucky enough to find one pic with a ruler beneath to compare to mine. Drilling down, I was able to compare the contour points of the wire to be fairly certain of a match. The bends and the strap opening are much different than that of the haversack hook associated with the D-Ring.

I was gonna comment on that one , but it seems you got it , I seen many 'Umbrella' pieces on line and in Magazines but don't recall ever digging one..

The button look's Good , & I see the Scabbard tip did have a separate piece (as the Tip). Cool.

Old Lantern pieces are always cool to find & the Grommets/ Leather connectors (for lack of a better description ) look like Civil War Era ones & 1900's pieces as they are basically still made the Same . Bet yours date to CW or the same time frame as your other Brass pieces .

I love to dig Brass cause Brass was 90% of the time meant to be Used for a good while.

P.S. It's neat your Brass hook still has it's 'Roller ' & better to find the 22 's in a pile than one at a time , many still embedded in Wood , that makes for a tough pin-point . lol
