I got a pair of VANCO with a deal from White's. I bought a new IDX PRO and for about $45.00 I got a carring case, Bullseye pinpointer and the headphones. They lasted for less than a year and they died. I tried replacing the wires and resoldering connections and nothing worked, so I wouldn't recommend that brand. The best one I found was REALISTIC that I got at a garage sale for $1.00. Sp far, I picked up 3 pair that way, just in case.

I also got a set of Vanco head phones with my Whites detector. This is really a cheap model. They may make good ones though. I do not know. Mine do not have any controls on them.

The main thing to consider though is the input impedance of the phones. Most detectors require headphones with 60 - 100 ohms impedance. The Vanco's I have are only 8 ohms - typical HI-FI headphones. They load down the audio circuit and you will miss all the weak tones.

You do not really realize the difference until you switch from one type to the other. There is a world of difference.

I now use the Sunray Pro and am very happy with them. I think they are about 80 ohms. Not sure. They are comfortable, sound good, have volume control, mono/stereo switch, sound limiter switch to limit the volume of the very loud hits, like a beer can just below the surface.
