🔎 UNIDENTIFIED Valve stem cover?

I think this is a valve stem cover, but I've never seen this style before and a Google image search doesn't return an exact match. I think it's made of brass. In the pic, the left end is just rounded off. The right end has female threads and a cavity that extends about an inch and a half into the part. Total length of the item is about 1.75". It was found in the middle of an older baseball field. I think it was likely brought in with fill dirt.
