I posted a similar thread on beach detecting but I need more info. Then I thought that this forum could maybe hold the specific Heath Robinson style info that I needed ? ?
We are long term water hunters but we are new to Hooka detecting , we are finding that digging the targets is slower and harder than our normal wade detecting . I have seen salvage documentries on T.V using a large ( vacume cleaner ) ? that sucks up the sea bed and sives the spoil into a basket over the edge of the boat ( GOOD IDEA I THOUGHT ) ? ?
Has any one any plans or input that may help us try and make something similar ? I have googled for plans but alas nothing as yet !
I have considered using compressed air from our hooka, fed into the lower part of the vacume cleaner lance feeding spoil into the awaiting basket ? or a similar idea using the thrusted water manifolded / flanged and piped from our outboard down to the lance etc etc .
I have also seen an invention on you tube using a stirrup pump with a flexy pipe into a bucket for extracting gold particals from river rock beds , I wondered could this idea be adapted or would the head / delivery hight of max 20 foot sea bed to boat cause further problems ? ? come on lads someone must have some ideas or mastered this system ?? please let me know
happy hunting Tony Weston

Easy answer-blow--don't suck-mechanics much more complicated. You need a keene water pump to do either. You can use a underwater dredge tube for your needs also. A 5/6 hp with a p180,Gast dual piston compressor(too deep for a t-80 to be used) and a 4" suction tube works just fine for underwater recovery. Bringing stuff up requires MUCH more capitol outlay-go to keene engineering website for $$$-Tons a au 2 u 2-John

If the other companies are too pricey for you try Harbor Freight Tools. I can hear it now..... Chinese junk. But I got a 2" pump on sale for about 1/3 the price of the others. Been using it for over a year & a half now, no problems. Another prospector I know has the same pump & never had a problem. He also mentioned to me that his partner needed a gasket and discovered these are direct copies of the Honda motors, so no worries about finding parts if needed. Pretty much, if it takes a major dump I can chuck it on the scrap pile, buy another & still be money ahead.
