Stopped by a vacant lot I have permission to detect on this morning. It's where an old auto repair garage and a house once stood. It's so big I just hit likely spots here and there before it got too hot. Beneath a big tree stump I found a token about the size of a half dollar. It appears to be made of copper. It is pretty well covered with verdigris but I have it soaking in peroxide to see if I can remove some of it. So far I can tell it has something to do with milage rated motor oil and has a milage chart on one side, presumably telling you when to change oil with this particular product? I got a lot of large target hits at 8" to 12" but nothing shallow. I didn't have anything with me to dig that deep in the hard ground. I suspect I am looking at a lot of old car parts? At least part of the lot was once graveled as I hit heavy hard to dig gravel at about 2" in some spots. Didn't find a thing up around where the foundation would have been which was kind of puzzling. It looks as if quite a bit of topsoil may have been removed however as the trees were sitting up on "mounds" about 8 to 10" higher than the surrounding ground. Funny how you begin to notice things like that when you get into MDing. I will try to post a picture of the token once I get it cleaned up so you can tell what it is. JiM

Still no photo, have soaked in peroxide for a couple of hours and now in olive oil.? On one side is says Mileage Metered HYVIS Motor Oils.? On the other side is a pie chart giving various mileages and stating something to the effect of, If mileage is between 0 to 999 miles use HYVIS 2, between 1000 and 5 figures, use HYVIS 3, etc. , etc. in four divided segments.? I found a picture on the net so enter www.antiqnet.com/search/image.jsp?id=706623? ?JIM I just rechecked the link and it no longer works. There was a pic and description of the token saying it was made of bronze and was put out by an oil company in the 1920's and 1930's. Showed value at about $13.50. No biggie but really a neat token.
