Had an hour to dig before it got dark. Me and my digging buddy returned to field where 3 of these have already been found. I got the machine out walked about 20 yards from the truck and got a trashy signal. Pulled the plug and about 8 inches deep among some square nails there it was... Number 4 from the field. Got some flat buttons, 2 thimbles, a cane tip with wood inside, 2 ball buttons, a bullet, and some what is its. Not to shabby for an 1 1/2 hours digging.

That's a top notch find. :hello2:

Did you say you've found 4 VA's there? All of them VA1's?

This was my first at this spot. My buddy who took me had been there on a previous hunt with a couple guys and between them in that day they dug the first 3 from this site. Mine was the 4th from there. nd all 4 are the same. 2 had shanks and 2 dont

All from the same coat, sounds like.

Toothpick method of mine might work well for that button.

Cheers,

They were in the same field but not real close to one another. i know they were training and camping in this field pre war. I am hopeful for a couple more to come out of there. This spot is still producing quite well.

Toothpick method of mine might work well for that button.

The back mark is "PHILAD" and it has a small capital "A" after the D. Was made by George Armintage of Philadelphia in 1830

Thanks DirtyMike , nice find man :notworthy: reason why I asked is that I possibly found a toasted Va. .. the maker is a match but can't get enough detail to id
