V3i Advanced Posts "Book"

Hey All,

I've been collecting and sorting posts from some of the brightest minds on the V3 series forums. I've semi organized this collection into 7 chapters which is around 35 pages. It's in Word 2007 format. I had emailed some of the docs to people but decided to make them all available. I organized it as best I could. I think it will really help those past the basics get deeper into the machine. It doesn't cover everything, not even close. It was posts that I collected due to needs mostly. Like I hunt in heavy iron, am interested in correlate, the spectragraph, etc. So you will find mostly what I was looking for.

Here is a basic breakdown:

Chapter 1 Tips
****Sensitivity Tips page 1
****Filter Tips page 2
****Iron Tips page 2
****Spectragraph Tips page 3
****Various Tips page 3

Chapter 2 Spectragraph Related page 5
Chapter 3 Rx Gain & Discrimination Sensitivity page 11
Chapter 4 Detecting in Iron page 14
Chapter 5 Probe Related page 18
Chapter 6 Correlate Related page 28
Chapter 7 Air Tests page 35

Enjoy - http://www.megaupload.com/?d=AZO806DO

Feel free to give me any corrections. I mean it doesn't quite flow like a book of course, is a bit choppy at times, but there is some order and I tried to quote people by their forum names. I have many more bookmarks that never made it into this, so perhaps in the future.

I do look forward to the real deal in Jeff Fosters book on the V3i. Hopefully in the next few months.

Re: V3i Advanced Posts "Book"

I like many others spent months after reading the BASIC manual surfing the forums for tips on how to enhance the V3's operation. The really sad part is that when Whites wrote the manual they just skimmed the surface. That's like selling a new car without an owners manual. There should be no reason that Whites couldn't supply an in depth manual covering all aspects of their machine. I'll admit I have had both of my V3'S for 16 months and pretty much have a handle on it's operation, but Whites dropped the ball on their manual. Heck I have 2 v3's, Minelab gpx 5000 and an Excaliber. Sure there are forums for these units, but the basic manuals with the Minelabs at least explain what the functions actually do. I have had Whites machines for over 3o yrs and although I like the V3's it will probably be the last ones that I purchase from the standpoint of their elementary manual. I have had a couple buddies of mine that live 800 miles from me that couldn't get the answers needed from Whites and didn't feel after reading the manual 3 times and watching the kids video that decided to sell them. That's the main reason people are selling them because of the lack of info in the manual. Whites sure has achieved an EPIC FAIL ON WRITING THEIR MANUAL!!

Earthmansurfer, if I am reading you right, you sound like you are going to be writing a Manuel on the V3i. Some one should! Evidently, no one in this country will, not even the manufacturer. Yes, I own a
V3i and til someone can explain to me, why the 3 frequencies can not pick up (read) everything that the MXT does and can do, therefore that machine will continue to rust, sitting in the garage. My example=
V3i found 4 bullets, 1 IH, 1 Lincoln, 4 spoons (3 Silver) The MXT went over the SAME EXACT spots and found 28 bullets, 9 spoons (6 Silver), 1 V nickel, 1 War nickel!!!! Probably, why White's came out with the VX3

Something like this would be good as a WIKI. Then people could add to it when they want to or as changes need to be made.

I'm not writing a manual - I don't have that knowledge. But, I have collected some great information on the V3i and am just sharing it in an organized fashion.

The V3i is so far ahead of the MXT (at least up to gold prospecting) that you can't really compare them. I'll just say you had your V3i set up wrong when you hunted with it. That isn't meant as an insult, just leaving you some room to know the machine will outperform an MXT. I imagine you had the filters and even recovery delay wrong, not to mention sensitivity. My ground is mild though so outside of heavy iron (which is very difficult for most machines), I have it easy. I strongly recommend you bury a coin or bullet in the ground you are hunting (or just find one) and adjust the filters, sensitivity, recovery delay for the best signal at your swing speed.

The VX3 is the same machine, with less options. You can easily "run it" on your V3i. Just look at the chart comparing them and only adjust certain settings - e.g. - 5band or 12.5 band filter.

Hopefully Foster is closer to completion on his book, but even with that book the V3i has enough settings that a person can dig themselves a deeper whole if they don't understand how they interact. That said, the V3i is easier than a DFX.

Were there depths of the finds diffferent, between those two machines? It seems to me that a spoon would be hard to miss with a V3i, even with a factory program setting, unless the depth was really excessive for the targets that the MXT found. I've always been leary of the depth ability of my V3i, since I've never found a coin beyond maybe 8". I recently began using Deep Silver(single freq 2.5) on my test garden and re-found a 9" quarter I buried last year in my test garden which I've not been able to read before. I was able to make a couple of tweaks in my modified C&J program and get it to ring a tone on three frequencies, but not near as solid as the single frequency of 2.5. I'm running the stock 10"D2 coil. The 6x10DD won't find that 9" quarter...well I haven't tried it in single frequency yet. My soil here is ultra dry and loose, so that can explain part of the loss of depth.

I'm not discounting what you have observed about the 3-frequency performance if it is missing deeper stuff that the MXT is finding. Question though...what coil were you using on the V3i? Missing those spoons the MXT found would disappoint me all to heck for sure! I wish I had someone close with a MXT to do a side by side test with. martin

Does anyone know where I can download this from? Megaupload.com seems to have been seized for piracy and shutdown
