Found this today at a 1700s house the flat end is wide and the other thin and is flat on both sides of flat end the thin end is solid one side but u shaped underneath hopefully the pic will show what I'm talking about image.webpimage.webpimage.webp
 

Yep, it is the handle portion of a cheap version of eating utensil from the mid-1800s (and later), cheap because it is made of simple stamped tinplated iron sheetmetal, instead of a more costly metal like brass or silver. I date them as far back as the civil war because we dig that kind in civil war campsites and entrenchments... but also civilian housesites. They were NOT military-issue. Your find is statistically most likely to be from a spoon.
