Here is a part of a map that shows the Hot Springs Health Resort. I tried to look for it but I can not find it, or where it used to be. If you know where this was could you please let me know.
Funny thing is that the map says the it is 10 miles North-West of the Ogden Post office. I tried to measure out the distance but I don't see it. Thought some Locals on here might know just where it was. I doubt it is even there anymore but I wanted to google it to detect it sometime.
When I was a kid we used to go swimming there. It had a huge slide. It was behind or East of Smith & Edwards. There is a green house operating and using the hot water for heat now.
You are north of Smith & Edwards with your pin. To my knowledge (It hasn't been there for over 40 years) and where the green house is using the hot water is about the same distance south of S&E. I haven't ever MD-ed before but I am buying a GPX 4000 in the morning to go after gold nuggets. I also just retired and moved to Idaho. I think the old hot springs would be a good place to coin shoot. It's kind of a trashy looking area and I don't think any body would bother a detector. Are you AF and planning on be sent to Hill AFB?
Randy
Yup, I'm moving there in August, My last stint in the AF before retirement. Tried to get over to my bro at Dover but you know how the AF is, LOL. I'm just planning ahead. Since this place looked like a dream to detect, mainly coins and rings. I would of thought it would of been hit hard.
I'm in Germany now detecting, ya its fun but hit and miss here. I'm looking forward to research paying off. I did the same thing way back in Hawaii, I was at Hickam in 90 and raided the historians office there and came up with 1912 airial photos. Man, it seemed like I was finding mercs by the handfull. Those were good times.
Don't know that it's the same place but when at Webber Collage in Ogden I hiked up the canyon to a former hotel that was destroyed by fire. Believe it was 3 to 4 miles up the canyon (easy hike) at the end of 29Th street above Harrisville Rd. It may have been 26Th but if I remember right there was an old abandoned Wheelwright shop on 26Th. That was mid 80's so my memory may be tricking me. It was common knowledge that the resort was there as I learned of it from some old timers in the area. There was a road to it that was a trail by the time I went there.Might look at some old newspaper archives. Also there was an old abandoned barn on a hill above the Memorial campground below Causey Dam that I never fully MD ed if your interested. There is a large Navel Gun mounted very close to that barn, for reference. Causey Reservoir is a neat place to explore by canoe too. There are rock formations on the east bank up the 3rd finger that I felt were potentially Spanish or earlier (Aztec) of a snake and a Conquistador as well as an Indian Chief with a non typical for American Indian head dress. Others that I showed them too thought them to be natural formations that happen to look like those images. The old fair grounds in Harrisville (when I moved the population dropped to 262) may be a good spot too, I had very good luck there on many occasions, it is , or was, on the N W diagonal road out of five points ( Harrisville Rd). Farther out that road at Rocky Point was a camp used by Kit Carson near some hot springs. It's been 20 + years since I haunted the area so things have changed. Hope it helps or motivates, Urb.
Didn't see the RR tracks on the first look at your map as I didn't scroll left. That appears to be near the Kit Carson cap below Rocky Point ( large ,tall rock outcropping the road bends around). There was a sign along the tracks there that marked Hot Springs Utah as the next station. If Smith and Edwards is the Army surplus store that was in that area it's east of there and the tracks and North of the turn off from Harrisville Rd.
