Found a USN ring (upper right corner) metal detecting today. There are no hallmarks inside, no rust, not magnetic, and has a pewter "feel"to it. Did they make pewter Navy rings? Just curious. Thanks.

Is your one year chip there for size comparison?:occasion14:

HH. I found that one month chip in front of a closed-up former hospital/rehab center. It was a fun find. I poured and extra beer to celebrate!

No-one has any info on the ring? Guesses? Hunches? Not on its value, but potential age.

I would simply take the Navy ring to a Jewelers (pewter, silver, etc.) and know for sure ajaj. Heck, just about all the Mall's have places to take rings (i.e., Kays, etc.).

I remember walking into the norfolk naval exchange to see row upon row of rings keychains, dog tags flags etc. that looks similiar to the picture, and I am sure it a new thing the PX's and exchanges have always sold little trinkets to visiting families and recruits. Not saying what you have is tourist junk but the only way to be sure is like vpnavy had said, get it tested from a trusted jeweler or collector. either way its a neat find.

Or could this be it? According to a website it's silver and from WW1 or WW2. I personally disagree with that. Almost definitely wouldn't be WW1. I'm thinking WW2 or later.

The design is a typical WW2 sterling silver US Navy ring. But it could be newer.
