Looks like a drum tuning key. Marching Band maybe?

Could it be gun related? Site adj. tool, something to adjust the gas for a gas operated action?

My husband is USMC ret. vet., he says up until the 1980's the military issued "c" ration cans and a key was issued to each serviceman so that they could open the ration cans. Kinda like a sardine can is opened today. The military now uses MRE's and has been since about the late 1980's... He said he wouldnt know where to date the key... :icon_salut:

Wasn't most of the cans though the standard sealed, thats why all the men were issued the p38 can opener?

Not sure, but when I was a kid I do remember my dad showing us c ration cans and him unrolling the seal with a key. One of the cans was chocolate cake and we kids wanted to eat it my dad said no! lol it was probably 50 years old then! . My husband thinks it's a c ration key, upon further inspection however I find it not to resemble the key my dad had. I think it's some kind of small socket type wrench.

i was a drummer in the marching band in high school and that looks just like the keys we used to remove or tune the drum heads ...the shaft was shorter but overall looks to be the same

If I'm not very mistaken, that is a front sight adjustment tool for a M16. The outer rim pushes down the spring loaded set post, and the square hole turns the sight, to raise or lower it. At any rate, great find!! Good luck and great hunting! Regards, Richard.

I WAS very mistaken! :tard: Definitely a drum key, but lots older than the example shown, due to being cast and not two piece. Sorry!! Great hunting and good luck!!! Regards, Richard.
