here's a good site I like to use. You can view aerial photos and also overlay with topo maps.

there is a great USGS Topographic map overlay package for Google Earth available from the USGS RMSGC Website. The links are below.

Basically, you just move to the location of interest in GE and click the USGS tab that is added with the link below. The view will change to a topo map of the same exact area at the same resolution. There are some limitations when you zoom in too close, but it is a super tool. Change the view and the topo map will reload automatically! Give it a try.
