I'm thinking it's a Texas Guard unit... I might be wrong... 56 would be the regiment or company.

The 56th Infantry Brigade Combat Team is an Army National Guard unit from Fort Worth, Texas. They are presently part of the 36th Infantry Division, National Guards of Texas and Oklahoma.

But your collar disc obviously has some age on it, and I expect it is from an earlier (WW II?) incarnation of the same unit.
