US & Spanish War Buttons

Hi All,
Picked up these buttons at a flea market,
The Great Seal is 23mm, backmark 'Sigmund Eisner Red Bank'
Have read he supplied uniforms and other items in the WW1 era.
The 'Ordnance' type is highly convex and 20 mm. Backmarked 'TW & W HM Paris'
found this date info: T.W.& W. H.M. 1865 – 1902
Would appreciate any help on ID's for these,
Especially country of origin for Cannon & Crown button
Thanks for Looking & HH

Re: Great War Buttons ?

The Sigmund Eisner looks like another addition to the Great Seal back mark thread. Your button does not have "N.J." in the back mark.

Did you get a deal? Well....they ain't makin either one of those any more!

Re: Great War Buttons ?

The crossed cannon and crown are British artillery...IMO, but I don't know anything as to date...goat

Re: Great War Buttons ?

The Eisner dates from 1902 - 35. I believe by the shape of the button it is pre WW1. WW1 buttons tended to be a flatter.

Re: Great War Buttons ?

Ill add the backmark to my list. Thanks. I remember reading that the National Park Service used Great Seal buttons on their uniforms made by Eisner and I wonder if this could be one. :dontknow: Heres the same backmark but without the 4 dots.

Re: Great War Buttons ?

I believe the bottom one is late 1800's Spanish Artillery...maybe brought back from the Spanish-American War.

Sorry I don't. It's out of the McGuin/Bazelon book.
OK thanks for the name of the book. :icon_thumright:

Thanks BigCypressHunter,
I'm satisfied with the Great Seal, but we still have just 2 differing countries of origin on the crown & cannon.
If someone can provide this info, then I'd consider it solved ;D

Re: US & Spanish War Buttons

When it comes to identifying a Foreign button, I always like to have a second source for confirmation. (And I don't mean some unknown person selling stuff on Ebay.) So, here's some additional confirmation that your button is Spanish Artillery, dating to the Spanish-American War era. The info is from the website of a well-known Militaria dealer, Mike Brackin. Enlarge the photos by clicking on them. http://pages.mikebrackin.com/5089/PictPage/1922148509.html

Thanks Cannonball Guy,
I looked at several references including Mr Brackins page, chose the single button link for clarity, I had a feeling British Military of the era would have issues with buttons from France :hello:
