US plate??

My friend dug this plate today. They are still out digging. I'm working so no digging for me. I have an IPhone so searching the Internet is limited. I have seen this item before, but can't remember what it is. Please help us ID it. Thanks in advance.

See if you can capture some better pics for us. But I don't think it is a conventional US plate. The top right hand corner has a ninety degree angle to it. That would eliminate most all us plates and us bridal rosettes. There is a pad lock that has a square corner and a us on it, but I doubt that is what it is. Sorry I can't help any better than that, but again get us some better pics.

I believe you are right about it being a padlock. I found a picture of it. Thank you for the reply.
