I went out Wednesday evening with intensions of exploring a permission where I think I have determined the old homesite, but it wasn't to be. Gate was closed and the owner wasn't home. Plan B was to return to a site where I've detected off and on for the past year, another homesite where I have found a 1907 IH cent and 1890s shotgun shells. Found two rings from horse tack (my guess), then a iffy high tone that I expected was another of the same. Everything is deep here, especially for the Ace. First item in the hole was a pottery shard; rechecked the hole and got a much more consistent signal. I'm still not sure what I found, but the old style US got me excited. Anybody know what this is? Please weigh in with your thoughts, and thanks for lookin'.

Thanks David. I had not thought of that. The three holes had me baffled. Makes a little more sense now.

That lock faceplate can be filed down and soldered to a brass buckle. It would probably look cool.
Congrats on your find.

Cool. Thanks vpnavy for the pic.

I found this complete one a couple of months ago. Circa 1910 or so. Nice find and good luck to you!

Here is another pic of the lock, next to a piece like yours... except a different design. The little rascals were very popular between 1890 and 1920.
