Hi all,

A friend of mine recently found this very nice ring in a river in Porto Alegre, Brazil. Since we don't usually have regular class rings in Brazil but as a detectorist who has lived in the US I have seen many, so I believe it is one.

It has W19/38 engraved on the sides and a COYOTES inscription just under the Coyote head. I'm still waiting a response from him abou any additional inscriptions inside such as the owner's initials or something.

Any info is very much appreciated.

Could it be a team ring? There have been different teams from Arizona coyote mascots. The W19 may be the number of wins ?? Just a guess, Tony

Wichita Falls high school? Their mascot is the coyote, looks just like tho one on the ring. Just a shot in the dark on my part... never been there, looked for a match on Google.

There was a U.S, Navy base in Recife Brazil during WW2, could the ring be from the class of 1938 and lost during WW2

That's a possibility... although the two places involved (Recife and Porto Alegre) are almost 2500 miles apart...

My friend will try to read whatever is engraved inside the ring later today... I hope I can find out who the owner is/was. I found WFHS's class of '38 online.

Now this is cool stuff! I hope you locate the owner or a relative of his to get the whole story behind this ring. This is making out to be one of those tales that you're going to tell people and start with "Now, you're not going to believe this, but..."

Arthur, Did you determine that WFHS was Wichita Falls High School, in Wichita Falls, Texas? Their mascot is the "Coyotes," and they have been around since 1891. Best of luck on finding the owner or his/her descendants! Sub 8-)

highly unlikely to find the actual owner. they would have most likely been born around 1920, so they would have to be 95 or 96 years old now. while it is possible they could still be alive, the chances are very slim. perhaps a relative could be found though with enough searching and luck. Wichita Falls Tx is about 70 miles from me. It would be interesting if it were from there to know how it ended up in Brazil
