I found this belt plate in an area full of WWII relics so I assume it's from that time period although it may be earlier.

It says "US" on the right edge, "C" on the left edge, and there is a shovel crossed with an ax on the front.

Any ideas what unit this plate belonged to?

Interesting one... The shovel and axe has me thinking Woodsmen of the World buckle but I didn't see any like it online. If you can get the crust off and bring out more detail it will definitely help
