US Army 1943 Metal Detector

A friend just inherited an old Military metal detector. Still in it's case with all the paperwork. Are there many of these around? The case says it is a type H. FNL 04-4175.100-200 SN 4070. It is in really good condition.

Anyone have any more info on these??

They sell for very little on EBay.
I think the fact the batteries are hard to replace
has something to do with it.

Still a nice Collectable.
