UPSTATE NY CELLAR HOLE

The roundness is a well it's covered with a metal plate. Those walls are the best you could still build on them today. There is a foundation about 75 yards to the right a lot cruder made must of been the stable. I've found some horseshoes there along with one IHP and a few flat buttons. Still waiting for my first silver coin or better from this site. Here are a few more photos.

Those are great finds it,s evident that cellar hole is way off the beaten track normally not even half of what you found would be left , good hunt :icon_thumright: Jim

Be sure to detect the steps & walls. Especially where there is a notable stone, like one larger than all the rest. Folks tucked things underneath/behind them.

And be a good doobie and return the stones to their original positions. Sites like this have historic value & we should always leave places as we found them (but I'm sure you knew that!).

The Ball in the upper right side of Photo ?

A few more photos. I only get a short time to visit this place in the spring and in the fall before hunting season. It's a mile and a half drive from off the main road and then a 20min. walk. It's a good time in the woods.

Any Idea what that Ball thing is in Your Photo ? I found a Broken One here in Campville N.Y. has a 6 or 9 on the top?

Just the circular formation is strange and interesting.
Yeah the stone work is amazing! Someone took a lot of time with that.

No mortar in sight, and still the walls are in decent shape. Someone knew what they were doing.

The well is especially nice stone work; never seen that before.

I HATE you east coast guys!!! The closet thing to a cellar hole we have here is

View attachment 775476 And thats an old one...

Just kidding I dont really hate you...just envious My history her in Neb is early to mid 1800's...

In New England the bits of rusty, twisted metal we dig are way more twisty and rusty and what you mid-westerners dig:headbang:

Thats the straightest most uncluttered cellar hole I've ever seen. :occasion18: Must have been a lot of fun to hunt.

Nice recoveries at the cellar hole (which is still in great shape) liking the hard luck token and the LC. How much time did you spend at the site Dutch?

i found that exact same token, NY exchange building, reverse says " Not One Cent"

What a gorgeous looking foundation! You have found yourself one awesome cellar hole site, dutchtoga!

oh, just an fyi" to those who asked about the circular formation, that was where the silo was.
