Well, it was a beautiful day for detecting here in Southern NJ. I finally returned to the site that I found the four large coppers back in May, only to find that I cannot get near the it due to the underbrush.
I decided to try a different part of the site which is upland forest with less of the nasty growth. After about an hour of detecting, all I had found was a few modern coins and a small sterling "SPECIAL FRIEND" charm. I always wonder how something like that gets lost in the deep woods! I decided to move through the woods on what seemed to be the remains of an old roadway. I soon found some 1940's Wheaties and a 1946 Rosie, so I knew I was on the right track.
I finally got a broken, but repeatable 51 VDI at about 7 inches on my DFX. I was excited because I have not had a hit in that range since getting the machine in March. Out popped this 1875 Indian with most of the detail remaining! I have been soaking it in peroxide all night, but the dirt is being very stubborn! It doesn't look much different than when I found it.
This is the first Indian Head I found using the DFX. I was beginning to think it was only capable of finding Colonials and Large Cents!

, but I am sure your rescue is a lot more important than metal detecting!
