Up early this morning, in the field at 7:30. The sun is so bright and the glass is sparkling in the debris field. I can almost see where two houses and a barn where. Gonna start with the pics from yesterday to catch some up to speed. Some hear debris field and start to foam at the mouth so let’s start with some pics of real early glass, and I mean it's everywhere. Then will do a little pottery and redware. I kept hitting what seem to be melted clumps of brass, some are really green. Then we start getting the big hits, 1847 LC made into button, 1837 Victoria G.B, 1851 bank Token Half penny. Mixed into all of this are fired musket balls and part of a harmonica, nice early nail and top of an oil whale lamp. Then a buckle, clay pipe stems and buttons. Soon it’s an Indian head token N.Y. and 1854 bank token half penny!!! Somewhere in all of this ( I thought I'd save this for last... one more silver!!!! I spent 6 hours today my buddy says this field will be dragged off in a couple weeks I can't wait. If you remember a previous post THE QUAKER SQUARE that would be a couple houses down. Happy Hunting to all, research is key = ED

Fantastic finds, you have a great site that should produce for quite some time.

Nice finds VERMONTIS!

Vermontis,
So looking at your finds what else might they be telling us? glass, brass, buttons, coins and coins with holes in them. I would say all of these finds tell us this place was well off: not everyone had glass, not everyone had brass, and not everyone had several coins with holes in them for 'necklaces'(????). What do you think?. Superb finds by the way!.....................63bkpkr

Great finds there Vermontis- sounds like a place to hunt hard. Is this an 'urban renewal' / parking lot project? You mention that your bud told you this site is going to be dragged off in a couple weeks. What did this mean- are they going to haul off some of or all of it? or just level it ? what? HH yelnif...

Very nice coins:icon_thumright:

Woo & Wow! One of most exciting posts I've seen on t-net! :icon_thumright: I used to live in rural upstate NY between Plattsburg & Chazy a mile from Lake Champlain, had good time digging in old trash dump next to back stone wall of our old farm place, found neat intact old bottles, though hadn't begun detecting then. Wish I still owned that property, lol. Looking forward to your next posts from your site, and HAVE FUN! HH Andi

as I understand it coins with holes in them were slave coins.

Dragged off to plant its a plowed feild right now .Im sure its gonna be corn -Pesdticides and Fertilizer YUK!!

My condolences on the pesticides- not healthy for man or bees, among other things. At least you can hunt now and after the harvest. HH yelnif...

Went back to the house site last night with a buddy, going in all metal mode. Pulling enough iron to fill a 5 gallon bucket or build a small tractor! Finding strips of lead that are waded into balls (baseball size), and 5 musket balls.Seems like they were melting and producing them. My buddy also got really nice 1865 nickel three cent piece!!!!First time I have seen one,man its realy thin =ED

Awesome finds! It sounds and looks very simular to the place I hunt, old glass everywhere, and square nails, clay pipe stems... very cool!

Hunting in spots where you can see dark dirt, glass, bricks, pottery is the best .You know where the house was. MY fav. is out the back door, behind the house!

...and especially not everyone could afford to burn whale oil. It was ridiculously expensive up until the time its use was discontinued.
Fabulous finds, ED!

This site falls into a area that was called "The Quaker Square" Talked to a local farmer, who's in his 80's and he says there were 20 some houses in this square only 5 remain today. It was formed in 1825 . I'm pretty sure I found 2 maybe 3 house sites but theres got to be more. I think the other houses are going to be front yards of houses built in the 50's-60's. Already got permison for one property!! =ED

Better than exercising to get your blood pumping so good at a site like that!

I think I'm gona need rotater cup surgery before I'm done:laughing7:=ED

Great finds,Ive been out 3 times so far this year and I am only finding wheats.

Keep looking Saltyshark you wiil find it .Homework is KEY-ED
