Over the River and thru the Woods...

Update on the button - finally got it as clean as I'm willing to risk it. Cannot believe how much gilt is left on this button (the back looks much better than the front). Can now clearly see the eagle on the back along with the words "Warranted Gold Surface" and "RR&Co." - From what a few members pointed out, it's Richard Robinson & Company - dates somewhere between 1813 and 1828. Definitely my new favorite in my collection.
Decided to post the new pics between this update and original post. Thanks for looking... :icon_thumright:

...actually, we never did make it over the river. :D

Even though Modern Miner had Bubba and I on what seemed like a competition death march, we dug some seriously pretty lead. The Williams Cleaner that Bubba dug is just fantastic (see MM's post). I was pretty excited to get my first dug musketball (although I cleaned it up a bit and it looks like it's been cut into the round shape?). The highlight of my day was the beautiful flat button with a whole lotta gilt still showing. Did a gentle wash on it and it has a backmark - hoping some of you experts out there can help with an i.d. Regardless of the finds, the weather was beautiful and the company was great (Doug was okay too I guess... :laughing9:). Enjoy the pics and thanks in advance for any help on the button. Keep on swingin'... :icon_thumright:

Gotta love those buttons!

Re: Over the river and through the woods...

First of all Andy, congrats on just surviving a hunt with Bubba and MM-LOL. They didn't have that blow up doll with them today did they? Congrats on your first (and certainly not your last) CW bullet. Nice flat button. If you don't dig shotgun brass, you will MISS those good buttons. HH, Quindy.

Re: Over the river and through the woods...

Andy,
Congrats again Dude. Great looking button. I see "Gold Surface". Is that "Warranted Gold Surface"?
Also I swear I see an eagle at the top of that back mark picture? Try some aluminum jelly (Ace Hardware) on the back.
I'll try to look up that back mark tomorrow. Great job,

Thanks a lot Q. After digging the 700th piece of shotgun brass I was getting a bit frustrated, but once I figured where the lead was disc'ing out at I was a much happier camper... ;D
Fortunately, there were no blow-up dolls to be seen - MM left it in his other vehicle... :laughing7:

Thanks again for having me out brother. The company, as well as the button and the 'ball made it all worthwhile... :icon_thumright:

As for the button - it does say "Warranted Gold Surface" - It also has some lettering just below the shank/above the word "gold" - looks like "A R & ..." can't read the rest. As far as the design goes, I'm lost on that one - I'm afraid to damage it by cleaning anymore. I'll try and get some better pics and post them tomorrow... :)

Re: Over the river and through the woods...

Nice Buttons!
I need to do some backmark research on a couple flats I have also.

Re: Over the river and through the woods...

I can see the "AR &" too. Probably "& Co." is my guess.
As far as the eagle on the back. Without a doubt I see one. I think I have some buttons similar.
Great button.

Thanks to you picking out that eagle or I would have never cleaned it up. Thought it was going to be another anonymous flatty... :icon_thumright:

GREAT to see you're out there diggin' up the good stuff!!!! LOVE that button! :icon_pirat:

Congrats!!! Nana :hello:

Great looking button :headbang: Flatties rarely have such a nice backmark even when the gilt is still there.
