Update - Arrr pirate chest and a Rolex - great holiday weekend & 1st post
I have been reading stories on here for just over a year and never had anything worth posting until this weekend. It started on Friday, went to a small public beach in Northern NJ and found a small tin loaded with costume jewelry. At first I thought it was an old discarded tin, but the weight said something different. At first I thought someone filled the tin with sand, but to my delight it was loaded with 60 pieces of costume jewelry.
Some of the pieces look to be of good quality as some of the pearls are knotted. One of the silver-like chains came from Germany and many pieces look rather old. Well it was a great find especially since costume jewelry is making a comeback. I just wonder who buried the tin and why? It looks to have been in the ground for some time and this beach is always hit by MD'ers.
What a 4th of July!! I went to my local lake and found a Rolex! My heart nearly stopped. It seems the stem was broken off and the watch stopped at 10:18am. There is no way to locate the owner as there is nothing engraved to give me any indication. I'll take it to a jeweler this week and see if it is the real thing. I hope the pictures are clear enough and you enjoy them as much I as did posting them.
Update - Well it was too good to be true, alas poor Yurik, the Rolex was a fake! I took the watch to a Rolex retailer who advised that I was holding a watch made in Hong Kong worth about $10.00. When I asked the dealer how he was able to determine that by just a quick look he said, " 25 years of selling them". I was really interested in trying to learn more, but he had no time for me Oh well, I was happy for a week at least.
