Well, saw the Coke Vendor today at work. He told me that he showed a guy from another one of our stores the coin and that guy paid him $60 bucks..and of course, he took it! Dang, I should have offered to buy it, but again, my brain was non-functional! LOL! Just thought I'd let ya'll know. Thanks for all the responses. I really appreciate it... Happy Hunting! (Time for me to hit the beach after this weekend! Hmmm...maybe Sunday night!)

I did NOT find this. However, where I work, one of our Vendor's did! He was metal detecting his back yard and found this. It was pretty!

I did some research, Ron looked in the Red/Blue Books and we can't find anything on an 1847 CC.

I did find many references that this is a fake and the first coin to be minted with "CC" was in 1870 at the Carson City Mint.

Can anyone clarify for me...is this real or not?

Thanks,
Annmarie

Re: 1847 CC Seated Liberty Dollar coin

Thanks everyone for your awesome replies!

First, the IN for IN GOD WE TRUST... it is there. I was at work taking the pics and on register, so I had to take them quickly as not to hold up my customers!

I'll see him tomorrow and will let him know he got a fake. He told me he metal detected in his back yard...I am wondering now if he really did. I am going to have him tell me again. He's filipino and his English is not all that great! But he is a sweetheart of a guy!

I really hope he did NOT buy it! But overall, it's still a cool coin! I'll take a magnet with me, hope he has it with him.

Again, Thank You ALL!

Naw, I don't think so. I think he may have bought it and wasn't understanding what I was saying about metal detecting. That is why I'll ask him again tomorrow.

He keep telling me, "I'll split with you 50/50!" I said no that it wasn't my coin, but his. That I would research it for him. LOL...he's too funny! He was thinking, and I have to say, I was too... a few hundred bucks...but I told him until I knew for sure, I could not say. Oh, will he be disappointed tomorrow! :(

I am adding a new pic also of the IN GOD WE TRUST.

Thanks ya'll...I'll post when I find out more info... like where he really got it!

I wonder what that is to the left of its wing :icon_scratch:

I ran across your post. I have a real Seated Liberty Dollar and a Coin that is like the one you posted.
I believe it is either a Forgery or a Chinese Trade Dollar.

I was just ready to write that is probly a chinese counterfeit... but I seen alot of others posted before me.. my friend (coin dealer) got chinese zapped last week on a trade dollar... it was a 1878 cc counterfeit... it looked almost exactly like the real coin very few minor flaws

IP, definitely fake, and besides the impossible date, In God we Trust, if you look at the strike, for example the banner on reverse, this is a really weak strike, which is one of the tell tales as well, form the photo, at least, the banner looks like it was never really there and not due to wear.

As to the Fake trade dollars from China, the fakes have gotten really good and can sometimes even trick professional graders, which is scary. With the trade dollar, the only tell tale on the really good fakes is looking at the field of the coin and not the detail. The strike is not quite strong enough, all detail on the coin looks absolutely correct. The field (area with no detail) does not quite look right.

if you are using a grader that can not tell a fake from a real one...get a new coin grader.....most of these fakes are way off the weight,by at least 3 grams or more and if you drop it on a surface you do not get the silver ring out of them........i sent several in that were bought in a group of coins and they had no trouble telling they were fake.......

I don't know if someone said this earlier, but you can't counterfeit something that has never existed. I also have a fantasy coin due to the non-existant date.
