Well, saw the Coke Vendor today at work. He told me that he showed a guy from another one of our stores the coin and that guy paid him $60 bucks..and of course, he took it! Dang, I should have offered to buy it, but again, my brain was non-functional! LOL! Just thought I'd let ya'll know. Thanks for all the responses. I really appreciate it... Happy Hunting! (Time for me to hit the beach after this weekend! Hmmm...maybe Sunday night!)

I did NOT find this. However, where I work, one of our Vendor's did! He was metal detecting his back yard and found this. It was pretty!

I did some research, Ron looked in the Red/Blue Books and we can't find anything on an 1847 CC.

I did find many references that this is a fake and the first coin to be minted with "CC" was in 1870 at the Carson City Mint.

Can anyone clarify for me...is this real or not?

Thanks,
Annmarie

:o there was no CC in 47 ..no in Trust on rev. & will a magnet stick to it ??? CMD

Re: 1847 CC Seated Liberty Dollar coin

The CC mint wasn't even built in 1847,,SO I think something is Fishy with that one. All be it a cool find..Kinda weird. :dontknow:

Re: 1847 CC Seated Liberty Dollar coin

I found this online:

If your coin IS dated 1847 and has a CC mint mark it's a fake. The market has been flooded with counterfeit dollars, many of excellent quality but even more with major goofs.

Re: 1847 CC Seated Liberty Dollar coin

I'd be willing to bet that's one of those Chinese made knockoffs

There also appears to be a mark under the word TRUST and under the left talon. Both of which could have said COPY at one time and someone tried to remove. I hate copies and reproductions of anything. I too have been burned by a fake.

Re: 1847 CC Seated Liberty Dollar coin

I was just ready to write that is probly a chinese counterfeit... but I seen alot of others posted before me.. my friend (coin dealer) got chinese zapped last week on a trade dollar... it was a 1878 cc counterfeit... it looked almost exactly like the real coin very few minor flaws

Look to the left of the letter G in God and you can barely see the letters I and N, although they are very faint.

IP, definitely fake, and besides the impossible date, In God we Trust, if you look at the strike, for example the banner on reverse, this is a really weak strike, which is one of the tell tales as well, form the photo, at least, the banner looks like it was never really there and not due to wear.

As to the Fake trade dollars from China, the fakes have gotten really good and can sometimes even trick professional graders, which is scary. With the trade dollar, the only tell tale on the really good fakes is looking at the field of the coin and not the detail. The strike is not quite strong enough, all detail on the coin looks absolutely correct. The field (area with no detail) does not quite look right.

what gave the trade dollar away to me was the eagles beak is a lil longer then the real coin.. I hated to tell my friend it was a fake coin after I looked at it..he thought it was real
