11/8-Lil Lead HoneyHole Update: Another 30mins spent on Wednesday evening after work, at the spot and here is the total take for the 2 hours I have hunted the area:
101_1228.JPG

Found this handful of lead at a new spot I reconnoitered yesterday. Found it in about an hour and a half.....One 3 ringer has been carved down into a wedge and one has been pulled out and folded again and again on itself. The black mass rang up on the MXT in the 50-60. The little buckle was very deep too and gave a SOLID +55. The round brass object looks like it held something in it but not too sure. The piece at bottom is flat with a small pin hole in it but not too sure what it is. And a Big IRON spike as well. This was a nice area though and was glad to have found it. Not a bad little take of lead and brass in such a short hunting time. I havent cleaned them up yet so excuse all the dirt and buildup on the lead. ;)

Re: Lil Lead HoneyHole

Definately a great little hot spot and can't wait to see what you get the next trip!! Sweet finds!

Re: Lil Lead HoneyHole

Thanks Yall...CIvilMan and MM. This spot was a suprise and is beautiful. Definitely a relic hunters dream. ;) You can definitely tell it was a battlesite and not a campsite though because the 3 ringers are all beat up. They were fired from across the river and hit the frontside of the defenses. It is funny because it makes since to piece it back together as you see the musketballs are dropped. I believe there were a couple of Southerners entrenched there and were getting fired upon. They shuffled to load their Enfields and dropped those musketballs! ;) ;) That is probably how that scene was played out 140+ years ago ;)

Re: Lil Lead HoneyHole

Good luck as you continue to explore that site, buddy. Keep the lead rollin' on in!

Re: Lil Lead HoneyHole

Thinking about how things played out on a particular site is a big part of the excitement of hunting for me as well.

Awesome finds, Senti! Keep 'em coming! Nana :)

Hey BB, this was actually a battlesite different from that campsite that I was investigating last week. I still have to go back over there as well to see if it "pans out". ;D

Re: Lil Lead HoneyHole

Good job, buddy, on the relics. You know where to look! How deep were most of the 3-ringers?

I have a feeling a box plate will be showing soon. ;) ;D

Re: Lil Lead HoneyHole

Old lead's a beautiful sight. Nice digs!

Re: Lil Lead HoneyHole

Got to love that old lead :) Your on to a winner with that site, can't wait for the other stuff.

Did you see the cannonball (Dad) got on Saturday, I think it was you that I said I would never get one :D

I would now like to tell you "I'll never get a Celtic Gold Stater" :)

Re: Lil Lead HoneyHole

No Crusader you have your Peeps mixed up. I never told you that you wouldnt find a cannonball. Dont know who told ya that....BUT, by your own admission, was it not your Dad who found it??

Kirk, the 3 ringers and muskets were about 5-6 inches down but this was in the side of a cliff in soft peet type soil. They would have probably only been about 3-4 inches deep if it were regular field type soil..>But you know the type of soil I am talking about..the kind that you find in the woods that is VERY damp and soft...THAT is how the soil was here.

I meant I said to you that I would never get one. (my bad gammar again :D) Yes my Dad got it, but as I keep everything we find, same difference really.

PMed you about Iron conservation

Re: Lil Lead HoneyHole

Sentinel... of course... fantastic finds! :)

Man.. three ringers are cool.

Hey - do you think that brass piece, upper right of the picture, could be a sword or knife hilt? Or part of one? I really have no idea, but thats the first think i thought...

Great diggins... You are a CW research maniac!

Jim

No actually Jim, that is a type of grommet that was part of a leather saddle and a leather strap would go through the middle of it. But, at first site it does look like a sword hilt or something though. Yeah the lead is good, but those Eagles sure are gettin harder to find. Sure hard to have a day like you had a few weeks ago with all those buttons ;)!

Nice work, Sentinel!

The piece with the hole in it on the bottom looks like half of an inner piece from a pocket knife.

Buckleboy

Did you notice the little 'notch' that is on the end of the piece you referred to above?
