Looks like a hand ax of some sort. I can see that it is a tool though, and it looks like it fits perfect to the hand.. Nice find

Unfortunately, I can't agree with that. I don't see any evidence at all of any altering of that rock by anyone other than Mother Nature. Just a geofact, not an artifact.

ty dorkfish and abarnard thats why i post the pics i respect everyones opinions about the artifacts or in my case lack of =) much more than mine at this point ty for taking the time to educate the green horns on this forum ty very much and good hunting everyone . marty

Just a rock. However, marty, since you spotted it and recognized the capabilities, there's always a chance someone in the past picked it up and used it briefly and then tossed it, like I will use a rock to drive in tent stakes at times. I don't see any usage or wear marks, but the context in which an artifact is found sometimes help determine what it really was.

Hey Marty

Good spot on that rock and you were smart to bring it home. I have a basement full of rocks and many things have turned out to be artifacts after all. I have buckets full of flakes and have found some scrapers and gravers on the surface . One day I am going to go through them all. No telling how many hammer stones ,knifes and scrapers we chunked into
the river before we found out they were tools.
We are lucky to have this forum so we all can learn and express our opinions. And remember not everyone is right all the time. Only time will tell on some things.
Thanks for sharing your whatisit. Keep posting

Regards,
TnMountains
