I had the day off today and got to a local park late morning. This is a late 19th century neighborhood so the finds are kind of intermingled.

I took the Tejon out for a cruise today and set the disc. To just below nickel and rarely ever checked the Alt. Disc.....which was at S-Cap. I always seem to dig more targets with the Tesoro but also more efficiently. My first good find was a nice old large two piece military button. Next few digs were the usual modern park clad.

After a while I got back into the older stuff and I'm thinking it was the trash dumping area for a possible home site that used to be close. Found a few old compacts, round ball, silver plated spoon, thimble, some kind of buckle and a really cool old tiny square.

After a while I decided to drive over to a farm permission. Decided to swing my F75 here and dug nothing but junk for an hour and a half and started back to the car. About 10ft from the road I get a deep coin like signal and kinda dug with low expectations. After digging down a good 7-8 inches out pops something big and round! When I swiped it with my finger I couldn't believe how the stars and date were coming through. I got a toothpick out of my finds box and removed some crud. I saw 1845 jump out immediately. Never seen a LC with this much details from a farm field. I'm stoked to find such a preserved copper! Just goes to show you never know when you will dig a keeper.

Hoping these pics aren't sideways, upside down ect. Can't seem to get them to work right on here lately:icon_scratch:

All but one.....upside down. Lol

Gorgeous finds! I hope to find my first LC with half that much detail. When I blew up the LC photo, it looks to possibly be 1845. Might just be my tiny phone screen, but it may warrant looking at the date to verify.

Thank you! Yep... I'll edit. Fat fingers vs phone.

Very nice LC, Military button, and various relics. Digging the little square too. Would that be brass with some nice green patina? Excellent hunt.:icon_thumright:

Hi, wow some nice finds congrats:icon_thumright:

Congratulations! :occasion14:

Congrats on the Large Cent and the Marines button John. What does the back of the button look like?

They must've made em' solid back in 1845 because I found the same coin, same year, pretty much the same shape... in a farm field too.

Mine was one of about a dozen large cents I pulled out of this farm over last summer and this one was in the best shape. Congrats on the great coin!

Thanks Steve! As usual with my buttons this one is kinda cruddy too. I can make out a little bit but not much.

Thanks! Yeah, that is definitely another nice one! Crazy how some survive the roundup and some don't.

Sweet LC and button. Very lucky to dig one that sharp. The best condition LC I ever dug is a 1831 but not quite as nice.

A very nice detailed L.C.. For the most part those old coppers were all good strikes, the soil conditions effect them differently. When they had been subject to fertilizer for years ,they come up toasted most of the time.I have found beautiful ones close to homes and toasted ones in farm fields/

I think being closer to the road saved this one. Probably never planted anything in this area.
