Found this in an old trunk on the second floor of the barn . It's about 8 inches long . The handle looks like bone or ebony . The spoon end looks like shell and is fastened by tiny 'pegs' (same material as the handle)

The trunk had alot of old items in it - 1848 Bible , old photos/some tintypes ,Victorian kids shoes ,clothes , letters from the 20's & 30's , kennel club programs from the 40's , cigar box with arrowheads + pottery fragments . Mice chewed most of the old clothes and the Bible and some of the old photos .
The spoon has a few mouse gnawings on it . Any ideas ? Thanks!

Ok....Give me the story on the person who lived in this place before you. What did they do that they had all these interesting artifacts. You have a treasure trove of mysterious items and I just love seeing what you will find next!
Thanks

It looks like something from the Far East or the Pacific Islands. I'm with Gypsy on this...give us the scoop on the previous owner of the trunk, then maybe we'll have more information to work with.

Cocaine was a lot cheaper in those days, so people could do it in larger quantities... ;D

The one in the left is from Turkey (ottoman) and made of wood and shell, the one on the right is from S.E. Asia and is made from rock crystal.Although the love spoon example Michelle showed has a shell bowl, I believe most were hand carved and would be fancier than yours. It wouldn't be right to give the person you love a plain looking spoon such as your (mojjax) example.I don't think a shoehorn of this construction would have lasted long at all,too weak and small.JMO- :-\
