Hello,

I dug this item recently in southeast Virginia. I am certain that it is silver, and intend to have it tested to confirm this.

Other than that, I have no idea what this was part of. There are two breaks on the object, and the angle on the top(see side view) was not accidental.

If anyone has any input on this I am all ears.

It is about 28mm tall and 11-12mm wide.

Thank you,
Anthony

Broken spoon, maybe a commemorative that hung on a display?

I could see how this could be part of a utensil, but that odd broken hook on the back throws that into question to me.

A ladle of some kind with the hook to hang on the side of the pot?

How about a book mark clasp? Interesting find, Breezie

Im thinking its a cherub on it. I have looked but cannot find any silverware that matches. Maybe part of a handle?

My hunch is that this one is very old. Not a hair barrette for sure.

Looks like part of a handle to me as the middle image shows a right angled piece that comes down, could have attached to a pot or door whatever. :BangHead:

It looks to me like a Silver Decorative Oval Belt Mount, possibly for for suspending a sword scabbard from a baldric, yours looks to have the Fixing missing. The one below is a plain type.

This looks like a very good probability. I thumbed through some of the records on the UK database, including the one you referenced. These objects do look very similar, but all of the records I saw had a rounded hook and none of them were silver.

Yes I to noticed none were Silver, and like you said it is similar but not 100%, but if it's not a belt mount fot that use, I would say it is a Oval mount for another use.

Found one that is a bit similar and made from Silver decorated with an acanthus-leaf design, Georgian period :icon_thumleft:

Wow, you are good. I love that website, and dig through it to ID things fairly often. But this little guy threw me for a complete loop.

So now that we know what it was, how exactly was it incorporated into use? this sort of relic is something I have never come across. How did it attach to a sword, and what else would it have been attached to?

If it is one, it would have been attached to the Sword Belt mount.

I think the image is a calla lily (flower).
