I found this copper a few yards from an 1838 Large Cent, but I have found coins as old as 1699 nearby as well.

At first I thought it was a large thin copper coin, but i see no detail except the slight outline of a rim on one side, and the 4 impressions on the reverse side. I recall seeing this type of impression pattern on another item quite a while back, possibly on a button.

Can anyone help me with an ID on this coin, token, disk thingy? It measures approximately 29.37mm, and weighs 109.6 grains.

Thanks!
Neil

Could be a halfpenny, pic on the left looks like it might show a trace of Britainnia's head and arm and even shield.. maybe you can tell a little more in person.

Another one that most likely will remain a mystery! Bummer. I found one like that 2 weeks ago. And its still in the bath.

It is really the 4 impressions that have me baffled. I know I can never ID this as a coin. I am just curious what it was used for.

The 4 impressions mean nothing as far as the identity of that coin, I agree with Iron Patch it is most likely a worn out KGIII counterfeit, and I also see what looks like part of Brittania's head, arm and staff or whatever you call what she holds. If it were mine it would be logged as a undated KGIII Halfpenny, and of course counterfeit, what else. :tongue3:

But of course!

Thanks again for your input guys. Just another bittersweet copper. This is copper number 7 found at the site, and All have been in less than desirable condition. The other dates are 1699, 1787, 178?, 1809, 1838, 1839, and 17??.

The only redeeming feature of the site is that there is little modern coinage or trash.

Happy Hunting!
