Hi there, I found this unusual glass object while I was metal detecting about a year ago at an 1826 house. I have never seen anything like this before. At first I thought it might have been some kind of insulator, but then I thought that there wasnt anything back then that would use insulators. It has the date 1850 on the "spur" sticking out of the side. Has anyone ever seen something like this or know what it is? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and HH!

I think that may in fact be part of a threadless glass insulator . They started making them in the 1840 's . try googleing '' threadless insulator '' I just did and there were some nice pics of some early Canadian ones on ' wayback.com ' which was the first site at the top . If it was complete your talking big $$ . I'd give you a direct link , but I don't know how to do that yet . Nice find !!! Go back to that house and look for another . I really like that protruding date !

Definitely a threadless glass insulator,

too bad it's so far gone that only 1/2 of it is left.

I'd bet you could still sell if for a few dollars to someone ($20 to $50) I'd guess.

Intact it would be probably anywhere from $500 to $20,000 depend on type/rarity.

I'd go back and look for more!
