unusual brick shaped rock

I found this brick shaped rock near the high water mark on a sea shore in Maine . It weighs about 5 pounds . It's a little smaller than a regular brick . It seems too uniform to be made by nature . Could it be an indian item ? The white lines are just veins in the rock . I've been using it as a door stop .

Well it sure looks manmade ,other than that I don't know.Nice though,I like it.Maybe from an old fireplace,somehow?

Definitely Looks Man Made, Maybe A Fire Brick From An Old Whaling Ship, Or Some Kind Of Ballast, Just a Guess. trk5capt...

I don't know anything about bricks, but the veins may help ID.
I used to find many red brick pieces on a Treasure Coast beach. We don't use bricks much for construction here in Florida. I would imagine they would have to cook on a sailing vessel's long voyage and would have to use firebricks on a wooden ship.
