Found at a known site - in a low lying marsh area that is dried up this year. This was lodged in between two large roots of a very large in diameter tree sticking upwards out of the ground. Based on how smooth it is, the color, and weight (heavier than usual bone) I think it had been submerged in water for a long time.
As a carpenter this is a very well balanced handle. The top appears to have a saddle and notch marks around the top. The side of the bone where your fingers would rest has notches that line up with finger grips. The bottom looks pretty painful if it were to thump you in the head. The second bone was in the same tree root system and neither of these bones look like the animal bones I usually find. (Older heavier smoother and bigger.) These were found 100 yards from the river bank in Central Ohio, Pickaway County.
