Unknown red gem

Found a few of these panning the red clay around the shore line. Picture doesn't show how red and see through it is.

I'm guessing Red Garnet.

Would this be considered a pyrope garnet?

I don't know how you would tell that without a chemical analysis or spectroscope. There are many red "garnets" that differ only in the crystalline structure and whether there is iron or magnesium in the matrix.

"Garnet" refers to a group of gemstones.
