I made a trade for this miniature portrait hoping that it might be of John Wilkes Booth, but after careful study, the eyes and other facial features don't look right to me. Nor do I believe it to be Poe. Would LOVE to be wrong though! I believe I have posted this in the past, but was hoping maybe for some new ideas as to a real identity. Thanks!
Cool piece.

IMO it is neither Poe nor Booth. The general appearance reminds one of that period and they are 2 well remembered characters. Booth had a more angular chin and deeper-set eyes, as seen below. Poe had a more distinct brow and a more defined jaw and chin. It is a painting.
Possibly the artist was painting Poe or Booth and missed the details. Otherwise I’d speculate it’s someone else. Still a very nice piece though.🍀

Thank you for your detailed reply with photos. I totally agree with your assessment, but still cannot identify.....guess he'll just be my "mystery man"!

Brooches were often commissioned after the death of a loved one (by those who could afford it). Possibly some son killed in the war, from a prominent family. Good luck researching

Thank you! All roads have led to dead ends so far!

Don't give up. It's a nice looking piece. It obviously meant a great deal to the owner.

I saw this pic and thought about this thread. Nope! That’s not him. Longley was old west gunfighter.

I'm bad for names but I'm pretty good at faces as the old saying goes.
Any how I'm looking at your post of the miniature and thinking I've seen this dude before (or somebody that looks like him)
Sure enough a quick search and it's a pretty good match
