Hello everyone, I found this forum last week while reading reviews on different metal detectors. I finally decided on a Minelab Explorer SE Pro although it was a tough choice, I don't get it to tuesday i can't wait.

Anyways... when i was younger i found this in my nan's garden. The picture was taken in bad light so the colour is a little off.
As far as the material is concerned i don't know, brass, bronze or gold.
It was found in the UK, if anyone know's what period its from etc please post.

Thanks

Hi,

Welcome to Tnet fellow UKer. You got a good machine, but your straight into the deep end. I didn't fancy taking two years to learn a machine like that one. I'm more for the turn-on and go but I'm sure with plenty of time you will soon be posting great things

I think its a Victorian furniture lock cover.

Welcome also, James.

I concur with Crusader, most likely a furniture bolt/bolt hole cover, similar to this.

Victorian Style cover

Nice picture, that was the type of thing I was thinking of.

The give away for age was the casting of the brass in a similar way to the horse brasses of that period.

No idea of the History of Somerset, so I look forward to you posting your finds  Remember to begin with its best to dig all. Its hard work but you learn the sounds better. Also keep your Discrimation as low as possible & your Ses. as high as poss. They are the general rule on most detectors (IMO)!
