I found this piece a few weeks back and haven't been able to make any headway with the identity.
It's made of brass and was found folded over. There are two image panels, the first with the eagle holding an olive branch in one claw and arrows in the other. The other panel has a rope fouled anchor. It may be broken off a larger piece, but if so it was prior to being lost since the patina is intact around all sides. The brass isn't too thick, certainly less than a belt plate would be, but sturdy enough that it doesn't flex. It seems navy related to me on account of the eagle and anchor and the style seems to be 1830's to 1850's, but I can't find a match online.
Has anyone seen one of these before and know what they were used for?
