While searching today with our metal detector, my fiance found an arrow (?) or spear shaped item.

We have no idea what it may be.

He detected it with his MD, but it appears to be made of rock.

The pinpointer is also saying metal. Could it be a meteorite?

The first picture is of the dirty item, the second is after it was cleaned, and the third is the back.

Any ideas?

Well not an arrowhead, but does look oddish ???... More than likely one of those finds you will ask everyone and their grandma and may not get the right answer. But hey it's these kinds of finds that make you :icon_scratch: your head and keep at the detecting. Ive never dug a Meteorite (watch me dig one tomorrow now for saying that :laughing9:) so i wouldn't know on that part! good luck my friend :occasion14:

The strangest thing is that he found it with a metal detector, but the thing actually repells a magnet.

Not a strong repulsion like you woud experience when you push two opposite pole magnets together, but a repulsion none the less.

Well what kind of area were you detecting? an old house site, next to the road, farmers field, school ground??? maybe that can help ID it a tad bit better :hello:

Not real familiar with Bucks county, though I have a few acquaintances that I need to touch base with about hunting their land in the spring. If I come across anything, I will let you know. I REALLY want to try out some gold panning in the spring too. Not sure if there are any good spots in Bucks, Montgomery, or Philadelphia Counties to try first.

I sort of wish it was a UFO. At least then I could tell my oldest son (he's 6) that aliens are real! He is on a whole new kick about aliens. I think him and dad need to stop watching that "Ancient Aliens" show on TV.

Has it got any weight to it ? I mean is it heavy for it's size ? I think that you have a piece of
whats Pot metal. Or a piece of OLD aluminum..........jmho............HH

Slag? Possibly forge slag if it's a long way from a foundry or railroad?

It is it heavy for its size, but not as light as the piece of aluminum can fire slag that we found earlier in the week. I played around with the pin pointer a bit more last night and the white parts appear to be triggering the detector while the grey parts and the oxidized brown parts in the outside are not triggering the pin pointer.

Battery is a good thought simply bc they use metals and salts in battery components.

We were in the middle of the woods, and I'm not aware of any foundries or railroads in the area. We might go back out to that sight later this weekend if the weather holds out.

Thx to everyone for the awesome response.

It looks to me like the broken tip of an auger bit from well drilling etc.
