Unknown medallion

Tiny amount of gilt left. Coppery tarnish.


I can make out the sphinx and the pyramids on one side. Other has pharaoh. No clue what the hieroglyphs say or how old it is.

Found at my main digs, the 1919 schoolyard.

Very interesting medallion, glad you dug it! Hope you learn some solid info about it soon.

King Tut's tomb in Egypt was discovered in 1922, and for a while after that there was a big interest in Egyptian ancient history here in USA, to an extent that costume jewelry & clothing imitating historic items became a popular fad for a few years. Maybe your medallion was created then.

Ahhh!! I know I've dug something either the same, or very similar to that.
Honestly, I'm taking a break from watching a blue ray copy of The Shining.
Seen the movie a bunch, never blue ray.
I'm almost positive that someone here responded that it was part of a
chain/fob lead attachment.
1920's era, I believe.
If no one responds by the end of me watching the movie, I'll try and track mine down.(How's that for a lame-a** response,
a little better than the "neat find, sorry I can't help you...)

I searched a 10'x10' grid around it, didnt find anything other than some unreadable wheaties.
