I came across this in an old barn being taken down to harvest the wood for restoration projects.
Barn is guessed to be mid to late "1800's since a carving found on the loft rafter, had the date "1898".
I found the metal remains from some hitching gear, few coins, marbles, nails and the remains of a lever action rifle from early 1930's.
But this one piece of iron I found has me stumped as to what it is.
I have not cleaned it, found it just as the pictures show it. This barn was falling in but very dry inside. Straw/hay from who knows when covered the floor and the mine field of groundhog holes. But I found this kicking around the debris on the floor.
Any help identifying and dating this would be great.
The only printing I can find is located at the four teeth "1881"...... perhaps the date?
Thank you in advance,
Bill
