Found 8 inches deep on Civil War battle & camp site at Triune, TN

Made of iron, not like the other line hitches/spikes for tying mounts' lines to, that I've seen, ? bit for horse/mule? Also found 2 horseshoes, different sizes, nearby; I am Welcoming any ideas!!
