Unknown Famous German? Artist Pencil Sketch on Postcard
Here is an interesting mystery... About ten years ago, I purchased part of a stamp collection from a president of a large US college. He did his collecting from roughly the 1960's forward. What he liked to do was take postal related items and get them signed by famous people. The item was usually related to signature in some way. So for example, he would have a Central American Dictator sign an envelope with graphics related to his country. Or a US astronaut would sign an envelope with a stamp from their space mission. One time it was the signature of a famous clown who's likeness was used in a postal stamp. I didn't have very much documentation on this collection, so I have had, over the years, a bit of fun researching each item as I tried to figure out what the signature was and what the relationship to the cover (stamp speak for envelope or postcard). Over the years I've probably sold some of the items for too little money as well. I eventually purchased an autograph price guide so I could stop making big mistakes in my eBay pricing.
Here is one that I have never solved. The postcard dates from roughly 1907, but the pencil sketch could have been done much later. I can't make out the signature on the reverse. I think I can read "Glik von" or "Gleik Von" or "Gleik van", etc... Perhaps it is in German? So there are the clues. 1907 postcard, pastoral pencil sketch on the reverse, probably an item requested by a collector, some sort of Germanic signature on the back, which I can't read. Any opinions appreciated.
