Unknown Emblem on a Flat Button

I was hunting an 1854 house and found this flat button. No clue what the emblem on the front is. Anyone have any idea what it might be?

A size reference might help. Anything on the back? Could be waist coat/early blazer button.

A little smaller than a dime. There is nothing on the back.
