Soak the copper in olive oil for a few hours then gently clean with a q-tip. The letters should show better then.

Fun digs there bud. As for the mystery copper...picture XXXXX656 looks to have a date about 1/4 of the way up from the rim and with a date placement like that I would say private token or store card. My eyes may be deceiving me but it looks almost like one of the " Illustrious Predecessor" tokens. Thanks for the advice by the way on field detecting....got out yesterday and will be posting my finds today once I get some decent photos taken. Get that copper soaked and lets see what details you can get out of her. Good luck and happy hunting!
